Training Overview

Video feedback for parenting has been shown to reduce symptoms in children and shorten treatment times. Traditionally video feedback has only been used for primary caregivers and the identified client. In this interactive webinar therapists will learn how to use the well-established Lausanne Family Play and Discussion tasks to provide video feedback to parents about their child and also about sibling dynamics, the family alliance, and any parenting or co-parenting issues they can work on to improve family functioning and the identified client's symptoms. The Lausanne Family tasks are well-established semi-structured play and discussion tasks that can be done both in clinic as well as in-home or via videoconference to assess and help families. As waitlists mount for children's mental health care, this 3-5 session model will allow for some families to get much needed input and care. Clinical vignettes and work with video recordings will play a central role in this webinar.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn delivery of Lausanne play tasks: Lausanne Trilogue Play (LTP), Family Play (LFP), and Picnic Game (LPN)
• Review concepts such as the family alliance and co-parenting
• Learn the system of clip selection to be used for video feedback
• Learn delivery of video feedback to the point of having foundational knowledge to begin doing this with their own clients

Training Facilitator: Dr. Diane A. Philipp

Dr. Philipp completed her MD at McMaster and did her psychiatry training in the Harvard-Longwood Program. She did her child and adolescent fellowship at Cambridge Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the University of Toronto. An Assistant Professor at University of Toronto, Dr. Philipp also heads an infant mental health team at G.H. Centre for Community Mental Health, SickKids. In collaboration with the Lausanne Centre for Studies of the Family, Dr. Philipp has published her work on young families and the transition to parenthood, including the book, “The baby and the couple: Understanding and Treating Young families” (Fivaz-Depeursinge & Philipp, 2014).
